African & African American Studies Faculty

While housed in ECU’s Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, the African and African American Studies program is interdisciplinary.  Students benefit from the knowledge and experience of faculty from across the entire campus.  These professors share their expertise in the humanities, physical and social science, education, fine and performing arts, health sciences, communication, and more.

Mission Statement

The African and African American Studies (AAAS) program at East Carolina University seeks to advance the commitment made by the university and the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences to bring diverse perspectives and an inclusive environment through its course offerings, programming, and engagement with the community of Eastern North Carolina. The AAAS program nurtures an interdisciplinary study for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students by examining how people of African descent have shaped our world.
